Nikkei leads Asian stocks higher, Shanghai bucks the trend

FXStreet (Mumbai) - Asian markets edged higher on Tuesday, with the Nikkei leading from the front mirroring gains from US markets which stood at record highs. While weaker yen across the board also boosted the Japanese benchmark sending Nikkei 0.43% higher at 20739.83.

The benchmark Australian S&P/ASX 200 index pared early gains to trade just 0.36% higher at 5708 points, with banks helping to keep the index in positive territory, while gold stocks weighed down on the markets.

Chinese equities traded mixed with Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index 0.52% higher at 25,540 while mainland China's benchmark Shanghai Composite plunged kept mild losses to trade at 3986.

Nikkei Technical Levels

The index has an immediate resistance stands at 20865. Meanwhile, support is seen at 20650 levels and from here to 20522.

NZD/USD extends recovery to 0.6600

The New Zealand dollar extends its recovery mode versus the American dollar in the mid-Asian session, now lifting NZD/USD to fresh session highs near 0.66 handle. The Kiwi was strongly bid in Asia as markets continued to digest the country's Prime Minister John Key comments delivered on Monday in absence of any significant macro data for the pair in the day ahead.
