US ISM manufacturing falls to 49.4 in August

The Institute of Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing activity index dropped to 49.9 in August from 52.6 in July.

A reading below the 50 threshold indicates that factory activity is contracting. Expectations were for reading of 52.0.
