AUD/USD made an attempt to rise on Stevens speech.

FXStreet (Moscow) - AUD/USD spent the day in useless range bounding, but Stevens helped the pair reach 0.9183 high.

Stevens is jawboning

All the eye and ears to RBA Governor Stevens who is speaking on “The Economic Outlook” at Annual Credit Suisse Asian Investment Conference in Hong Kong. During his last testimony, the governor confirmed that the exchange rate is still high by historic standards. And the period of the stability for interest rates will be prolonged. Nothing new was said today, but the market reacted to the positive developments in economy, as Stevens “sees encouraging evidence that handover from mining is beginning”. It pushed the pair to 0.9183 high, but the move was short-lived, and the pair returned to 0.9174 area without additional catalysts.

What are today’s key AUD/USD levels?

Today's central pivot point can be found at 0.9153 with support below at 0.9131 (S1), 0.9095 (S2) and 0.9073 (S3), with resistance above at 0.9289 (R1), 0.9211 (R2), and 0.9247(R3). Hourly Moving Averages are largely bullish, with the 200SMA at 0.9082 and the daily 20EMA bullish at 0.9048. Hourly RSI is neutral at 61.

AUD buying frenzy as RBA omits to talk down AUD, positive mining transition

The combination of encouraging pro-growth headlines by RBA Stevens, coupled with the omission to talk down the AUD, led to yet another spike in the rate to 0.9183 new high.
